Tandy Leather relocates to retail space on Monroe

The Spokane outlet of Tandy Leather Factory Inc., a Fort Worth, Texas-based retailer that sells leather and leatherworking supplies, has moved to a new location at 1702 N. Monroe.

In 2009, that building was bought by San Diego, Calif-based Mar Furniture for Less Inc., which purchased it along with its Spokane store building at 1201 N. Division, just east across the parking lot from the former Tandy Leather Factory site.At Tandy Leather's new Monroe Street location, Construction Associates of Spokane Inc. made about $100,000 in improvements to the building after a Napa Auto Parts store moved out of that building in early May, says Kevin Edwards, of NAI Black, who handle the Tandy Leather lease with Pete Thompson, of Stonemark Real Estate Co. Monroe Street Investments LLC, of Spokane, owns the building. To access the webcast, go to "About Knoll" and click on "Investor Relations."Haux now says the company mostly likely will go forward with plans to develop a Mor Kids & Teens Furniture for Less at the former Tandy Leather Factory site, but the company hasn't made a final decision yet. The building would require some improvements, he adds.Because the aniline leather does not cover up any imperfections in the original leather, it must be of very high quality without imperfections to be used to make a leather sofa. This makes it so the leather used for the sofa can breath. Over time and with proper care an aniline leather sofa will develop a patina. Any stains will be absorbed into the leather over a short time and will not be noticeable.Aniline Italian leather sofas are some of the strongest leather sofas available since they are made with full grain leather rather than the lesser quality split leather that is sometimes used to make inexpensive Italian leather sofas .However, they do need to be properly cared for. As this is natural leather, you do not want to use any liquids on the leather. If you should spill something, just blot with a clean dry cloth to remove as much as possible of the spill and then leave it alone to be absorbed into the leather.Utley says Tandy Leather Factory moved because its lease terms with Mor Furniture ended in May, and Mor Furniture now plans to use the property behind its store.Tenant improvements included removing an interior wall for a new showroom, installing some new lighting, and repainting the building, which has about 4,000 square feet on a main level and a 2,000-square-foot basement.

The business also holds in-store classes and workshops. In Spokane, the Tandy Leather store has four employees, including three full time and one part time.
